Amazing people always make for best stories
When we started Michiana Life’s journey almost two years ago I wrote that our focus would be on showcasing the special people who make this region so amazing.
Now, with the eighth issue you hold in your hands, I can honestly look back and say we have surpassed all my expectations.
This issue represents that goal perfectly spotlighting some tremendously talented individuals who give selflessly to make Michiana a better place to live.
Almost every feature in the magazine offers a window into ...
Finding the Game Changers in our communities
I love sports. I mean, I really love sports.
Anyone who knows me can tell you I’m a huge basketball and football enthusiast, fanatical about my teams — Go Kentucky Wildcats! Big Blue Nation forever! — but also fascinated by the sporting world in general.
My passion goes beyond just the contests on the courts or fields, though.
I love the human element the most; the stories of personal triumphs over adversity, underdogs winning against all odds and the way individuals make the ...
Forrest Gump may be on to something
I do not own a Kindle or any other type of e-reader. (In full disclosure, my kids do but I never use the devices).
I do own a book case. Actually, I own about a dozen of them.
Each is filled with a wide breadth of genres and formats, ranging from the literary classics to children’s staples like the Hardy Boys to what I call airport thrillers to illustrated graphic novels. And everything in between.
You will also find stacks of magazines, either having recently been read or saved for ...
Come along for a unique journey
Milestones are life’s road signs that guide us through the years, creating touch points and memories that last forever.
On a personal level, I’ve been blessed with many in recent weeks.
I turned the big 4-0 in August. My youngest daughter started kindergarten in early September. My oldest daughter had her first significant sports achievement this fall by earning a hat trick with three goals during her second game of Upward Soccer.
Through the years, I have reached many professional goals ...
Rockin’ docs show character of region

A key part of the consideration is always whether or not a story fits with our demographic and our ...
Growth, new beginnings exciting part of spring
Spring is officially in the air! (Hopefully it stays that way). No one probably appreciates that more than residents of southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.
The region absolutely comes to life in March and April. I think we all try to bury those winter memories for at least another eight months.
Spring has always been a season of growth and new beginnings, themes we feel fit perfectly with the third issue of Michiana Life.
From unique businesses like Bit of Swiss bakery (page 54) and ...
Building on our successes — with your help
It is safe to say that, by all measures, the premier issue of Michiana Life was a resounding success, and we are ready to kick off 2015 with a bang!
The first issue of the magazine launched in late fall and was greeted with tremendous response from readers, advertisers and subscribers. More than 8,000 copies were mailed or picked up within about two weeks. Most of our free pick-up locations required multiple refills and are now running low or are out once again.
That is a good problem to ...
